The 28 team members' united effort, total dedication, trained VBS volunteers/staff, hard work, and passion to win the lost were the keys to a successful Vacation Bible School led by Pastor Fermin Ancho, U.S. Navy Retired, on July 12-14, 2024, in San Diego, CA.
Thirteen (13) made professions of faith during the three-day VBS. A total of forty-eight adults (17), youth, and children (31) registered and participated during the summertime VBS. The VBS Theme was “BREAKER ROCK BEACH – GOD’S ROCK: SOLID TRUTH IN THE WORLD OF SHIFTING SANDS” (Romans 12:2).
Benjamin Ancho and Abby Alvarez, Co-VBS Director, said, “This (VBS) is a significant increase from last year’s attendance! Thanks to our community outreach events and the dedication of our church members, we saw a 200% increase in new attendees who had not previously attended VBS. None of this would have been possible without the volunteers’ time, commitment, effort, and prayer.”
Southwest Baptist, founded on May 4, 1958, is located in the southwest part of the Southern Baptist Association of San Diego, Southern Baptist Convention. Overlooking south, anyone can see Tijuana City, Mexico, from the church's backyard parking lot. Southwest Church, a trilingual church (English, Spanish, and Filipino), has unique opportunities to reach out to the multiethnic groups living in the community. It is also located next to one of the largest high schools in the South Bay area.
