San Diego Latino Pastors’ Retreat

For the second year in a row, Hispanic pastors, and church planters from different parts of California gathered at Green Oak Ranch in Vista, CA for an overnight retreat. Forty-six leaders represented Latino churches from San Diego, Los Angeles, Bakersfield, Orange County, and Riverside County. The purpose of this event was to gather Send Network Latino pastors to fellowship, pray for revival, and cast vision for leadership development among church plants & established churches.

Dr. Ramon Osorio, who serves as the Ethnic-Linguistic Church Planting Director at the North American Mission Board, was the keynote speaker. He shared encouraging and challenging messages about the importance of individual and team development. He emphasized that “the person who is most important to lead in our church is ourselves." Dr. Osorio shared four biblical examples of working with a team. He illustrated the benefits of working with a team. However, he spent the second half of the second session discussing why teams fail.

David Quiroa, Pastor of Valley Bible Church-Español in Bakersfield, said, “The Latino Pastors and Planters retreat in San Diego was not your typical workshop-based retreat. The organizers strategically scheduled times of fellowship, prayer, and inspiration.” He added, “these leaders ate, prayed, laughed, and worshipped together.”

Omar Loza, a former International Mission Board missionary who recently moved to San Diego to plant a Spanish-speaking church stated “the retreat was very uplifting and the work of those who participated was excellent. As a new missionary here in North County I was glad to meet other brothers in the work. I hope we do something like this again soon!" Ray Alonso, pastor of Ocean View Church En Español in San Diego and recording Christian artist, “thanked God for this time with other Hispanic pastors in California and above all, personally, it was key to being able to make decisions regarding the advancement of the Hispanic work in our area.”

Michael Jimenez, pastor of Kaleo Comunidad in Lemon Grove, CA believes “the retreat was encouraging for us. We had a time of fellowship, teaching, exhortation, renewal of vision, and focus on the call of discipleship and church planting.” Adrian Quintana, a church planting resident at New Vision Church, noted “It was a great joy to be able to spend time on this retreat making new friends and being encouraged to further God's work.”

David Godoy, West Region Champion for Send Network Español, shared about Send Network Español’s purpose, values, and its new church planting residency program to equip future Hispanic church planters in North America. He concluded the retreat by challenging the participants to pray about the next step in their church-planting journey as they consider how they can play a part in reaching over 10 million Latinos without Christ in California. There are over 15 million Latinos in California, representing 39% of all residents in the state. This community is larger than the entire population of 10 Spanish-speaking countries.

All participants were grateful for the generosity of San Diego Southern Baptist Association and Send Network, who co-sponsored this event. Send Network Español is currently working with other Southern Baptist partners to organize more Spanish-speaking pastors’ retreats in the western region of the United States to cast vision for church multiplication among Hispanics.

Retiro de Pastores Latinos de San Diego

Por el segundo año consecutivo, pastores hispanos y plantadores de iglesias de diferentes partes de California se reunieron en Green Oak Ranch en Vista, CA para un retiro de dos dias. Cuarenta y seis líderes representaron a iglesias latinas de San Diego, Los Ángeles, Bakersfield, Orange County y Riverside County. El propósito de este evento fue reunir a los pastores latinos de Send Network para tener compañerismo, orar por un avivamiento y compartir una visión para el desarrollo del liderazgo entre las iglesias nuevas y las iglesias establecidas.

El Dr. Ramón Osorio, quien funge como Director de Plantación de Iglesias Étnico-Lingüísticas en la Junta de Misiones Norteamericanas (NAMB), fue el orador principal. El compartió mensajes alentadores y desafiantes sobre la importancia del desarrollo individual y de equipo. El enfatizó que "la persona más importante para liderar en nuestra iglesia somos nosotros mismos". El Dr. Osorio compartió cuatro ejemplos bíblicos de trabajo en equipo e ilustró los beneficios de trabajar con un equipo. Sin embargo, pasó la segunda mitad de la segunda sesión explanando por qué fallan los equipos.

Los organizadores programaron estratégicamente tiempos de compañerismo, oración e inspiración”. Agregó, “estos líderes comieron, oraron, rieron y adoraron juntos”.

Omar Loza, un ex misionero de la Junta de Misiones Internacionales (IMB) que recientemente se mudó a San Diego para plantar una iglesia de habla hispana, dijo que “el retiro fue muy edificante y el trabajo de los que participaron fue excelente. Como nuevo misionero aquí en el norte del condado, me alegró conocer a otros hermanos en la obra. ¡Espero que pronto hagamos algo así nuevamente!" Ray Alonso, pastor de Ocean View Church En Español en San Diego y artista cristiano, "agradeció a Dios por este tiempo con otros pastores hispanos en California y, sobre todo, en lo personal, fue clave a poder tomar decisiones con respecto al avance de la obra hispana en nuestra área”.

Adrián Quintana, un residente de plantación de iglesias en New Vision Church, señaló: "Fue una gran alegría poder pasar tiempo en este retiro haciendo nuevos amigos y animándome a promover la obra de Dios".

David Godoy, Líder Regional del Oeste de Send Network Español, compartió sobre el propósito, los valores y el nuevo programa de residencia de plantación de iglesias de Send Network Español para equipar a los futuros plantadores de iglesias hispanos en América del Norte. Godoy concluyó el retiro desafiando a los participantes a orar por el siguiente paso en su jornada de plantación de iglesias mientras consideran cómo pueden desempeñar un papel para alcanzar a más de los 10 millones de latinos sin Cristo en California. Hay más de 15 millones de latinos en California, lo que representa el 39% de todos los residentes del estado. Esta comunidad es más grande que la población total de 10 países de habla hispana.
