Mike Carlisle

Send Email

Dr. Mike Carlisle, a native of Cincinnati Ohio, had an early faith experience in a small neighborhood Baptist Church and was later called into ministry as a freshman in college. While attending a Christian college, in Kentucky, he met and married his life partner, Judy Allen.

Mike and Judy were always active in their local church as teachers, leaders and lay ministers. It was in San Juan Capistrano, California, that Mike’s call to ministry was renewed. He resigned his executive position, left California, and moved his family to Texas, where he finished his Master’s of Divinity degree (M Div) at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. After Seminary, Mike served as National Director, Evangelism Explosion, and then moved back to California where he led two churches as Senior Pastor. This included starting a new church that was sponsored by Rick Warren and Saddleback Church, in Lake Forest, California.

Mike joined the staff of the North American Mission Board in January 1998.   His first primary goal -- to provide leadership and vision for using technology to further God’s Kingdom, start new churches, and evangelize North America and Canada.  Mike’s experience in evangelism, church planting, management and technology gave him a unique set of skills to provide technical and communications leadership with a ministry perspective. Mike was later appointed as Vice President of Strategic Communications then VP of Missions and Mobilization.

Before accepting the call to serve as Director of Missions for the San Diego Southern Baptist Association, Mike was President and Co-Director of Vision San Diego. Vision San Diego is a non-profit organization that connects businesses, schools, non-profits, government, and faith communities to transform the County of San Diego with servant leadership.

As far as hobbies are concerned Mike’s interests include golf, reading, technology, motorcycles and racquetball. He and his wife, Judy, have three sons and five granddaughters. Mike holds several graduate degrees including MBA, M.Div., and Doctor of Ministry in Transformational Leadership for the Global City.

Judy graduated from Campbellsville University with a Major in Biology and a secondary teaching credential. Her study of God’s Word began to take hold while in college through the effective teaching of her Bible professors. She completed her certification of teaching at UC Irvine and taught several years. She also went to Southwestern Theological Seminary and pursued a Master’s in Religious Education. As one has said, ‘you never stop learning, if so, you stop growing’. Learning has been a growing process as she has gone through many workshops, seminars and conferences.

Ministry Discovery helps people process their Spiritual gifts, Heart, Abilities, Personality, and Experiences (S.H.A.P.E.). Who is Julie McFadzean…

 – Communication Specialist

I have been a Tax Analyst Programmer, Tax Preparer, waitress and cashier.  I was born in Ohio, raised in Pennsylvania and I also lived in Florida, where my daughter, now a young woman, was born.

As a child, my mother was always saying I should be on stage.  I haven’t lost that knack, as I enjoy connecting with people, making them laugh and ‘entertaining’ them.  The more people in the room, the better!  I miss the seasons of the east coast, especially the snow.  There is something about the snow and the twinkling appeal it provides that will always be in my heart and childlike eyes.

Favorite music – book – movie
I grew up playing the clarinet and singing in the choir at school.  I am not sure if that is where my love for feeling music comes from.  I absolutely LOVE ALL kinds of music, as it speaks to my soul.  I have the uncanny ability to know and retrieve the words of most songs that were sung in the 70 and 80s.  My tastes in books have changed over the years and the ones I own in my bookshelves have served their purpose.  I enjoy utilizing the words on the pages for whatever my current seeking in life seems to be.  At present, the Bible plays the biggest role and numerous daily devotionals.  The last book that I finished that had the most impact was “Safer than a Known Way” by Pamela Rosewell Moore.   I can watch and enjoy most any movie but I seem to be attached to sci-fi.  Probably the quest of understanding the unknown.

Hobbies
Hiking, baking sweets, dancing, encouraging and hugging others, reading to escape to the world of the author, LAUGHING.  I do not enjoy golf, however if Tiger Woods is playing and his magic is ‘on’, I am watching.

Edison Community College in Fort Myers, FL, AA; University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, BA in Liberal Arts.

Favorite Quotations

“Be still, and know that I am God;…” Psalm 10 (NIV)

“…Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Matthew 17:20 (NIV)

The Lord replied, “The times when you have seen only one set of footprints, is when I carried you.” Poem by Mary Stevenson

I was born and raised in Sinaloa, Sinaloa México in a typical big Mexican family that consists of 13 siblings, 10 brothers and 3 sisters. Growing up in a very conservative family my parents taught me as a child the value of importance of honesty, loyalty, kindness and respect towards others.

I was fortunate to have graduated high school in my home town since in those times it was rare for anyone to get an education pass elementary years. As I aspired for a college education and obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering I had to make the hard decision of leaving my entire family at the age of eighteen to attend  U.A.B.C. in 1981(Autonomous University of  Baja California), located in Mexicali Baja California, Mexico. During my college years I met my beautiful wife Sandra Gutierrez where she graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture.

We got married in 1983 and had two beautiful daughters Carolina and Alondra. Now my family has grown and I have gained two incredible sons in law Alberto Morlett and Donny Melton and two grandchildren Adriel Alberto Morlett VI and Briseis Rose Melton.

I will never forget the day I gave my life to Christ in 1992. From that day on my life has completely changed for the better. Seven years later I was called by Jesus Christ to be a Pastor to Iglesia Bautista Torre Fuerte (I.B.T.F.), October 1999.

During my early years as a Pastor at I.B.T.F. I found the importance to continue learning about God’s word, therefore my wife and I decided to extend our education by obtaining a Master of Arts in Religions, Master of Arts in Biblical Studies and Master of Divinity at Southern California Seminary .

God has blessed and surrounded us with men and women with hearts of servants who are willing to reach San Diego for Christ.

It’s such an honor and privilege to serve our Lord Jesus Christ and help encourage and mobilize the church of God with the direction of God and the help of our San Diego Hispanic Association. Our goal is to reach Hispanic people in the San Diego region and bring them to Jesus Christ.

His favorite Bible verse
